Monkdogz Urban Art is pleased to announce that a preliminary outline of a documentary film concerning the life and art of Jean Marc Calvet has been developed by writer and director Dominic Allen. Updates on the progress of this exciting project will be posted on this page as they occur.
WRITER / DIRECTOR – DOMINIC ALLAN Born in England in 1964, Dominic has spent his entire professional career working in production of film, television and advertising, rising in the 1990’s to become an established documentary filmmaker. From an impressive catalogue of almost 30 political, historical, observational and travel documentaries, his recent films include: MANDELA: THE LIVING LEGEND ( A BBC/SABC Production, 2 x 60mins) With unprecedented access to the daily life of Nelson Mandela, Dominic’s film explores both past and present to tell the epic story of one the greatest icons of our time . * Nominated for an International Emmy.
ISRAEL UNDERCOVER (October Films/BBC Correspondent special/WGBH Frontline, 45mins) Documentary gaining unique access to Israeli special forces fighting their war against Palestinian terror. * Winner – TV Story of the Year, Foreign Press Association Media Awards * Winner – Journalist of the Year, Foreign Press Association Media Awards * Nominee – The Rory Peck Award for exceptional individual work in a war zone
THE PIPELINE (BBC Storyville/PBS/CBC co-production, 60mins) A 2,000 km journey across Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey on the trail of the new BTC oil pipeline under construction from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean. Illustrating the geo-politics of oil, Dominic’s film encounters every obstacle in the pipeline’s path across some of the most dangerous and geographically challenging regions on earth. * Winner – Cine Golden Eagle, Washington DC * International Showcase – Hot Docs International Documentary Festival, Canada
Among Dominic’s many other documentaries is the acclaimed 7 DAYS THAT SHOOK UNITED, an alternative history of the infamous Manchester United Football Club. His career has also been punctuated with the production of drama fiction for cinema and TV. After graduating with distinction from film school he worked in post production (at MPC in London) then in commercials and promos for Virgin among others, before moving on to work as a Location Manager, then Assistant Director on numerous feature films including How To Get Ahead In Advertising, Hellraiser, Lost Angels, Wilt, Great Balls of Fire, Accidental Tourist and Batman. He moved into directing via ITV’s long-running series The Bill, and has recently written two screenplays for cinema that are currently in development. He lives in Barcelona where he continues to develop, write and direct new film projects.
