When I am looking at a painting, I realize that it attracts me much more than a beautiful landscape outside. Why? Perhaps viewing a piece of art is similar to a dialogue with its creator, who must have felt and experienced a lot before he picked up a brush and dipped it in paint. Of course, nobody can compete with nature, which works miracles of beauty. Even art fails if it tries to surpass it, but as an artist, I am bound to keep attempting the impossible, for it is the supreme temptation of creativity. The images that I reflect in my art often come to me with the ephemeral streaks of sunset and with the tremulous shadows of night, but even more often they are born of the long and crowded days that line up, striving to linger in my memory. Nothing fascinates and inspires me more than human nature. Storms and calm of the human soul are the preeminent subjects of my art. |

These days people are living fast and stressful lives and with my paintings I'm trying to slow them down a bit. I'd like if they found my paintings peaceful, got lost in them and forgot the reality if only for just a moment. |

A Swedish painter living in the country in southwest of Sweden. The artist's works borders between what's present (realism) and what's not (abstraction). If the colours look real, that's because the artist sometimes mixes them with sand from the beach. With brushes, knives and his fingers, he worked at the painting repeatedly, with colours growing atop one another, creating form rich in texture. "A painting should rest in its birthplace". Yet, the artist never let any of his paintings stay in the birth process for long though he advocates just that. He takes the painting a step further, constantly evolving it spontaneously. He may stop painting at the right moment, but acknowledges that more could be created should the process be continued. Each of the images he has created then becomes a continuing process in the mind of the viewer, or at least that's what the artist believes in. What is seen from his paintings, is a moment. I paint dramatic landscapes in watercolors and oils to unveil luminous realms.
Ocean sprays, rock formations, storm clouds and wild grasses waving in the wind
are my starting point. They suggest something powerful and enigmatic, peaceful
and permanent, beautiful and unknowable that underlies and animates all that
lives. My goal is to explore this "something" that is always changing and always
present. I like to suggest this through a refinement of pictorial details and with
controlled intensity of light and depth of color. Working slowly I apply multiple
layers of paint made translucent with the use of wax, allowing new depths and
tones to develop in surprising ways. |

My painting expresses the things that touch me spiritually. Peoples’ faces, the natural world, dream images are among my favorite subjects because they can evoke the spiritual in the everyday world.
My style is a combination of realism, surrealism and impressionism. I am interested in evoking a mood or an emotion in the viewer. Rather than render an image as the eye sees it, I look for a way of making the connection between the divine and the natural. So I may paint a tree from crown to roots because its roots, though normally unseen, are a vital, living element of a tree. I like combining realism with the abstract (realism in the foreground, abstract in the background) because it combines focus with mood. I am well aware that this is considered a transgression by many: I employ it as a technique because it allows me to express the intersection between the real and the surreal, the natural and the supernatural, the seen and the unseen.
I am continually experimenting with style, and also with the medium. Oil is extremely versatile, and I can get effects ranging from watercolor-like transparencies to more traditional opaque layers. I often combine these effects in the same painting by isolating each layer of paint with varnish. This prevents the leaching of colors down into previous layers, permitting me to employ different techniques as I build up each layer in the painting. |

As I create a painting I am taken into each location. I choose a subject by how it makes me feel at that time. Most of my subjects are of Polynesia due to my great love and respect for the culture. I have recently been exploring my dreams and emotions in my art. Painting my dreams I have had while I was sleeping is a very spiritual experience for me. This awakens my soul. Dreams can tell a powerful story and bringing my dreams to a visual state brings the story to life. I work in oil, watercolor, pastels, colored pencil and acrylic and I enjoy mixing some of these into a single painting the most. This technique can give a painting much more depth and strength. I enjoy the life and variation this can bring to a single painting.
Painting is in my soul and if I can bring out what is in my heart and place in on paper or canvas I feel complete satisfaction --- especially if I can make someone who views my art feel the same way.

My work explores the physical and psychological effects that space can have on an individual. Through the use of various mediums and materials, I address the intimacies that exist between an individual and their relationship to their surroundings. By manipulating the associations that are created as a result of this relationship, we become aware of their value. Through the use of abstraction, performance, and viewer interaction my work asks the audience to examine the shared space, which exists between themselves and their surroundings.

Art integrates that other me that isn't being allowed to perform. I can paint a
pose, but these concepts go beyond that. The figure-- it has to be a yearning with
every part of the body. It has to be the thoughts. Each new painting answers
different questions and makes other answers less important. It is an evolution.

I Paint DEAD PEOPLE. I'm a healthy 29-year-old who reads the obits. I will be 30 in a few days. Will you make my birthday wishes come true. I'm a Chicago resident.Thats the first place I turn to in the Chicago Sun times. I like the stories. I memorialize many of the newly deceased in 36”x48” canvases – rendered in Kiwi shoe polish and house paint.
I begin by outlining the face in the obit photo, then make a small sketch of the outlined image. I paint the 36”x48” canvases with house paint from Home Depot – a premixed gray that someone else had returned. After the background paint dries, I pencil in the face from the sketch, then cover the lines with black Kiwi shoe polish. I display the work with small placards that include excerpts from the obituaries.
My objective is to honor the lives of everyday men and women. I have not recieved any awards for my work. I have sold quite a few pieces in the last two years. I have had the oppurtunity to show at the Gavin Glenn galery in LA, Gallery 364 in Bay Ridge, Black Walnut gallery in Chicago. These are a few places I have had the pleasure of showing. KI the Finagler
Perpetual Esoteric Duality is the underlying concept behind Knowledge
Infinites work. A visual journalist, dream merchant and displayer of
how the world is viewed from both sides of the chessboard. The friend
of my enemy is my friend and thus KI the Finagler is constantly grappling
with Kevin Bradshaw to seize control of his creative soul. The work
that comes forth is therefore a mosh pit of war & peace within the
same breath.
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, circa 1972, raised in Bedford Stuyvesant, the Finagler has allowed his virtue to coincide with personal demons to bring forth a hyper realism that is both selfish and selfless, cartoon like yet classic in terms of style and concept. Looking at the work of KI the Finagler is seeing what goes on inside oneself dying from the horror and being reborn through enlightenment.

Through using emotions; fear, anger, love and jealousy I explore fundamental components of human existence. In my work I question to what extent we are ruled by emotions and what we would be without them.
My current work is bold, large and immediate with mostly single human figures ruling the picture plane. I attack the canvas with large brushes and let the paint spill and drip as I work. Traces of previous layers of paint are left visible to reveal the history and evolution of the painting. In this way the canvas becomes more than a layer of paint on a surface; it becomes a space to enter into. The colors I use erupt from human substance: meat, blood and dirt - creating a visceral image.
I expose my own life experiences in an attempt to understand the larger picture of humanity, often using the image of myself or people close to me. This guarantees that my creative process remains deeply personal. I sometimes will use metaphor or Norse mythology to tie my personal experiences to the history of human experience. Living between two cultures and traveling to places like India has challenged my reality. I paint to extract and visually process hat is true to my experience of living and being, to translate personal trauma into universal terms. |

I believe that there is a liberating and vital strength in my art. Through my work I seek to express the intuitive, the original in our being, the magic of imagination and the joy of life.
I find inspiration in the universal in myself, in the archetypical, as seen through my subjectivity.
My visual expression consists of the intuitive in abstract art and the rational ore specific elements from figurative art.
I use certain elements from abstractionism like dots, lines and the picture surface. With those I create known figures in shapes of silhouettes. At the same time I play with foreground and background. Most of the elements are re-created along the way. The original idea goes through several metamorphoses.

I like to use symbols in my art work and creating my personal iconography. The symbols are the clues to many aspects of my life,but my paintings usually start with a color idea,than evolve into composition in which color is the primary subject.
I work in collage , various media on paper and canvas ,mixing everything possible together and bring it to others in a visual format. Much attention is given to the surface texture adding different materials,carving,scratching,gluing...creating visual dialog.

I'm a multi subject painter/printer from Edmonton, Alberta,Canada. My current focus is on abstract landscape paintings. Using poured paint, mixed media, found objects,brush techniques and the random act of painting; My work sometimes takes more than a year to complete and is definitely based in abstract expressionism.

A canvas is not simply an underlay for paintings. It is three dimensional, having
a kind of deepness. I incorporate this property into the creation. I cut the canvas
and the space behind it becomes visible. This can either be the wall, the picture is
hanging from, or I create a background where I fix another fabric or paper to the back
of the frame. An interaction between the foreground and the shrouded background
emerges. Textures on the surface arise from incorporating even, rumpled or teared
paper, sand, fabrics and cord by using acrylic paint. This is why the picture becomes
not only a visual experience but also a tactile one.

Barbara van der Kruk (1956) was born in Nieuwer Amstel (near Amsterdam). After highschool
she was admitted to the Rietveldacademie in Amsterdam to study arts. Despite this fact she
decided to study English language and literature at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. In
this period she took art classes with J. Ploos van Amstel. Inspired by his classes, she quit
her study of English, and resumed her study in arts (VLVU, arts and textiles). After
graduation she became an art director for several leading international advertising agencies.
(Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, Young & Rubicam) During this period she kept on painting. Her passion
for painting is still a prominent part of her life. Most of the time she paints women; her
last series of these paintings were inspired by the seven sins by Thomas of Aqcuino and is
called Femmes Fatales. Crowds is another group of paintings showing people in large and small

I think of my paintings as investigations into the unreliable nature of safety, possessions and knowledge - and the search for spirituality of some sort, as a promise of compassion. |
