Gassim Abdelkader was born in NDjamena, Republic of Chad, his early childhood was a huge space with no borders, a tremendous out-door silence, at the age of five the family moved abroad, where he experienced an entirely different sphere, it was a quick step from the two dimensional visual elements to the three dimensional comprehensive detailed perspectives, from the Sahara to the city, from the blank golden page to billions of crossed and parallel lines.Few years later the artist moved to Africa, once again a change in visual elements, a devastating progression in his need to create a balance within the visual scene. The artist moved towards developing his art experiments by studying and utilizing every possible material, from water colors ,oil paintings, acrylics, etching, printing ink, scraping boards, stone sculptures, ceramic, porcelain to metal sculptures and digital media.
Traveling across the globe through out the previous twenty five years the artist related to his identity as a nomad, lived and acknowledged the spectacular cultural diversity that surrounded his existence, from the land of the spinning Sufi dervishes, the virtual thoughts and the power of silence to the density and comprehensive European cultural scene, from the wonders of the far east to the cosmopolitan and contemporary North American approach to art, from the desert as an open gallery without walls to a group of selected museums and private galleries in many places around the world. |

Often the subject of the painting is morose, horrid, or deals with the macabre, but in a playful or whimsical sort of way.
I am usually trying to portray a human gesture or expression. The subjects of my paintings and drawings are completely imagined,
but they have real personalities and they look and move in a way that I remember seeing someone look and move.
In the surface and application of paint I am in pursuit of something honest and beautiful, something natural.

For me, the creative process begins with the act of placing objects next to one another. I seek to establish a composition in which those objects compliment and strengthen each other through light, form, value and harmony of colour. Like characters in a play these objects tell stories that are magically endless. I am filled with gratitude for the ability to live the artist's life. In my studio, being an artist, everyday. |

Juli Adams is a career artist living in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. She does not like to write artist statements and so she is now disguised at this very moment in the third person. Juli's inspiration it is said, comes from her boyfriend when he is not watching, cats that lurk in her house, and most everything else in the big world... including (she would like me to add) 'stuff in the sea'. Wendy Adams
Wendy is a native of Seattle born in 1951, who lived most of her life in Burbank, California, and has been a resident of Las Vegas since 1989. She is often heard to say, "I was born with a paint brush in my hand". Wendy has a love of color and vision that extends well past her canvas. She has never received any formal art training. Aside from painting, she is a photographer, a professional Multi Media Designer and Graphic Artist, she sculpts, is a crafter, lover of family and animals, and a creator of beauty. |

Driven by the material (coloured pencil) and searching for objects by wich light raid, shadow, fold and colour are playing a part, I am almost every day busy drawing.
Coming from a "drawing-family" (grandfather Adank has won the "Breda Award of Art" three times in a row (1896-1897-1898) and my father was no painter/artist/drawing-teacher without merit, too), I uphold the tradition.
I was already drawing at a very young age. During the many walks through the forests around Breda with my grandparents, brothers, sisters and many others, I made (according to my grandmother) hundreds of drawings in the sand with the first branch I could find. Always only drawing, drawing, drawing. "He will certainly become an artist," my gandmother always said!
After the elementary and continuation school it wasn't strange, that I started studying at the Academy for Visual Arts "St. Joost" in Breda, division Publicity and Graphical Arts and at the School for Graphical Subjects in the City of Utrecht. Both schools I ended with succes. After I passed the exames for teacher in drawing and handworks in Eindhoven.
During my work in a printing-office, speciality colour-retouching, I learned to look at the smallest details of drawing and colouring, so the precision work.
From 1976 until 2001, as a teacher in drawing, handworks, window-dressing and advertising in Rotterdam, I tried to pass the "detail", the precision work, to my pupils. But (drawing)blood is thicker than water, so during several years I am busy drawing again, almost every day. Daily subjects by wich, as said, light raid, shadow, fold and colour, detail and precision are playing an important role. An almost photographical approach is nearly always a "must" for me.
Just with (dry) coloured pencil!! Layer, after layer, after layer.... lovely works.
Often it is a struggle with the tools to find the exact reproduction. But that is just fascinating and defiant!

I am technically an amateur artist in as much as I do not depend on an income from artwork for a living. I draw nude women; it's just something I got into by accident a few years ago, and enjoy doing in my spare time. My drawings are intended to be nothing more than pretty things, and I don't aim to produce artwork that is thought provoking in any way. I simply make marks with a pencil on bit of paper and hope that people will like what I do. For me, selling a drawing is merely a measure that my artwork is being appreciated and enjoyed. |

I have always found it difficult to make the
expected ‘artist’s statement’. I find I really do
not have a lot to say about my art. I’m not sure
why I paint, but only know I have to. My paintings
are not complicated or intellectual ... I do not
think a lot before I begin a painting. I simply paint.
I respond everyday and everywhere I go to the
visual, and I always have. It is by far my most
absorbing involvement in life. As a child I was
often accused of staring off into space and not
paying attention. Perhaps the latter was correct,
however I was usually involved with observing
the scenery. I have always created with my hands,
from a very young age, using whatever materials
I found available to work with.
I have been painting now for 28 years, and now
that my kids are older, I am finding more hours
to do so.
My style has been described, and I would agree,
as Neo Impressionistic; one could say bordering
on Naive. I often begin a painting on site or
viewing something, and then quickly move away,
finishing the painting from within.

I have worked with masks for many years. Creating, performing, teaching, exhibiting. The mask is a powerful, transformative tool that has been used by man throughout history. All over the world masks are alive in rituals, ceremonies, among shamans and healers, in masked dances, carnivals, processions, and in the theatre. Masks show us the world anew. They allow us to traverse the hidden worlds within us. They arouse our dormant powers of creation. Masks can provide us a path to follow in our search for magic, spirituality and adventure. I am fascinated by the many opportunities the masks gives for artistic and human display. To me the mask incorporates the arts into one, adds philosophy, spirituality, fairy-tale, storytelling and personal development. Inside the mask I move freely in moulding, painting, fashioning, dance and movement, drama, theatre and music. But it works just as well as an independent work of art to be hung on the wall.

My work is basically my emotions ... Each painting represents a deep felt
emotion that was in control at the time of production ... Some emotions were
simple and straight forward while others intense and complex ... If I had
to classify my work I would call it Expressionism, later productions have
a tendancy toward Abstract Expressionism.

Psycho-unreal canvases, absurd in the reality of the sketch and yet able of transmit their disarming message. That is then the nature of the man, his imprisoned struggle in the thin line between the earth and the sky, his eagerness for freedom and space. It is not by chance that the human figure is in the centre of those pictures: an image, stylised, reduced in dimension, monochrome. The Maestro devotes his attention to the background, to the scenery in which the action takes place. He devotes his attention to the sky, painted with such minuteness that it almost exasperates the contrast between the reality and the dream, between the reality and the paint, between the fatigue of existing and the transcendent lightness of a man that has overcome the barrier between the earth and the sky; of a man that has learned to measure his own distance from the stars, and has become an inhabitant of the cosmos, of his infinite spaces and silences, but who has not lost the awareness of himself and his own nature.
Systematic and distinctive is -in these works- the entry of the light from the left top corner and seems to be on the point of flooding the cloth, in the same way in which the rising sun invades the night. It is a warm reassuring light, perceived not only with the eye, but also with the body, as an electric current wind in a tactile feeling of an embrace. It is the light of an outside star and his own voice, the voice of the cosmos telling the man about his own nature.
It is this peculiar light the goal of the Alitta's elaboration, which he suggests to us on our own nature, a difficult goal but a coherent effort: the man could see the light because he needs it, and it is what encourages the perennial search of what many call 'transcendence'. Something mystical that, without interfering with religion, could represent and give sense to our life. Undoubtedly, Oscar Alitta, already from his biography, appears to be a not very common person. His trips as well his frequent contact with people from the artistic environment and from different cultures, show us his eagerness to discover new scenarios, his desire not to stop his own artistic and cultural growth and improve his own ability to interpret life and the world. All that, apart from the unquestionable technical competence, makes him an Art Master of planetary greatness

I am fascinated by the torn and rusty; not the correct and structured. Much of my work
is centered on the surface, yet the surface is not what I feel is important. The most
important is what is behind the surface...I work with colours in layers, each layer
expresses its own feeling. Scratching the surface often exposes something completely
different behind....The paradoxes of life are expressed symbolicly when the contrasts are
placed beside each other... warm and cold - light and dark - chaos and order. Stairways
occur often in my images and have a great influence; the different steps in life and
relationships. Stairs also symbolize the way...

Ray Annino is a retired chemistry professor and researcher. A signature member and past president of the Rhode
Island Watercolor Society he has been painting as a hobby most of his life. He paints primarily seascapes and landscapes. These are influenced by his twenty years living in Western New York State and long time residence in New England. His seascapes are a natural development of his experiences from digging clams to mating on fishing boats and crewing on sailboats offshore from Newport to Bermuda. He is also and avid skier and his ski trips in New England and out to Utah and Colorado provide him with additional reference material |

I got my first camera (a small Kodak) when I was 10 years old and a taste for
photography emerged. In the following years, I learned a lot more mainly by taking family
photos. However I was already taking it more seriously and even as a teenager, in school
competitions, I won my first prize. At the beginning of the 70's I did military service
in the former Portuguese colony of Guinea Bissau, where I made a close friend, Antonio
Villar de Sousa. This friendship would prove to be an invaluable source of inspiration
and motivation to my development as a photographer. Antonio Villar de Sousa was more
experienced, more established as an artist - not only a photographer, but also a sculptor
and painter - founder of one of the first modelling photo studios, the SHOW UP. Later the
two of us would build a small laboratory. After returning to Portugal, in mid 70's, my
interest takes a new turn. I got more involved than ever, not only in terms of output,
but also by attending for the first time photography classes. I begin to read a lot,
becoming a true autodidact - I still remember getting through an entire encyclopaedia of
photography. However, professional and personal reasons would take me in a different
direction. In particular video would take me away from photography, without evidently,
killing my taste for it. In 1998 I return to action, and upon surveying the field I am
taken aback by the progress that has taken place. New techniques and possibilities
emerged. These days I feel I am learning new things everyday. In particular I take
seriously the digital possibilities and the contribution that computers can make to
photography - that is without doubt consequence of my professional connection with
computers.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1971, I grew up on Long Island from the age of 3 months. My childhood in New York was rich in history, the arts, and culture which served to inspire the budding artist within me to bloom. With time my spirit evolved, and my own style and the things I wished to vividly convey through my art emerged. To be an Artist is all I've ever wanted to be. My themes are predominantly feminine, romantic, whimsical, and commemorative of the bygone eras I connect with most. I am inspired by literature, music, images, the human form and raw emotions which evoke bliss and conjure the desire to celebrate life's experiences, memories, and dreams. At the core of all my artwork is the simplicity and beauty of everyday life seen through the eyes of a girl -- especially where love and the human spirit is concerned. I work in acrylics and oils, and my art can be found around the world in private collections.

When i started out as an artist my medium was painting, but falling in love with photography allowed a spontaneity i was craving. Along with Impressionism and Baroque, my photography is similar to and reflects the techniques and working styles of the early European Dadaists by whom i am surely, influenced. I don’t care for the certainty of what’s in front of my lens, but the creativity, the fantasy, the invention, that can gush from a thought thereafter / before. Between the certain and the uncertain there’s a possible space, like in dreams and fables. |

My deep love and respect for animals is the central theme of all of my work. The images
and interpretations I bring to my glass are inspired both by imagination and endless
research. I am especially drawn to the link between the animal world and myth. Ancient
civilizations the world over held animals in the highest of esteem. They depended on
animals for their very survival, yet revered them. It is my goal to prompt a positive
emotional response from the viewer in the glass I create. Whether it be the animals of the
Southwest, Africa , Australia, Asia, or wherever, animals are an integral part of our
planet and deserve to live in peaceful co-existence.

I have been a bricklayer for 25 years and finally decided to leave my employ to pursue my art as my primary effort. With-in 2 months my works were already featured in a gallery and in the this year alone I have been in three art shows and also received ribbons in each show. I believe this genre has not been pursued, these sculptures are truly imaginative and unique and original (Yes I know this is an over used statement) But in this case it is simply the truth. I am presently working on a piece to be submitted to an international art competition which the work in progress can be viewed on my website http://www.1mason.com , this piece has been a work in progress for over three months. It is a masons' interpretation of the (Tree of Life).

Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical
value-judgments..an artist recreates those aspects of reality which represent his
fundamental view of man's nature.

Working as an illustrator and painter for more than 20 years, I have often utilized
the figure in narratives to communicate the nature of the human condition. I give each of
my characters a role in my paintings that plays out like a scene from a motion picture.
Carefully scripted by a personal experience, these characters go about their lives like
you and me. Many of my paintings depict tension or energy in some way. The tension is
exhibited in an attitude, an action or in some activity on the canvas. The tension is
either overt or more kinetic, but is almost palpable in each piece of artwork. The size of
my paintings, along with some personal connection, pulls you into the canvas. The drag of
an alto saxophone fills the room in one painting while the noise deafens you; the smoke
chokes you. A fight breaks out in the corner of the room on another canvas while a pool
hustler wins a round. The subjects are infinite. Henry O. Tanner, John Sloan, and George
Bellows were masters at observing and translating these types of human conditions onto a
canvas in oil. My technique, drawn from what I have observed from these artists, comes
with a willingness to bare my soul and to capture my life experiences with each stroke of
my paint brush.

My first revelation of woman’s beauty began early. It was at the Opera, a nightmare I was obliged to attend from the very impressionable age of seven. My only reward following the torment of arias and high uncomprehensible vocals from large breasted divas was the ballet! There was young beautiful, graceful creatures, unreachable angels floating in space in a magic setting of lights and music! I was in love with all of them. In the mid Fifties I began photographing the figure. Soon the nude alone was not satisfying to me. I felt it had no great artistic value by itself, but could be used as a reference to be developed later into a composition with more depth and meaning. Black and white photography, darkroom “magic” and my imagination opened the door to what was to become a life-long dedication. Photomontage allowed the creation of unknown worlds, mysterious surroundings, and dreamscapes, an open field to creativity with no end in sight. That was long before the digital revolution... |

My direction shifts so quickly. Swimming in a sea of ideas, unmatched, mismatched, it feels like I’m drowning. History rewinds: Arizona, Connecticut, New York, and Los Angeles. Colors blur, harsh black lines turn to dots; a light sprinkle of rain. Triangles and squares, thorns on a cactus, pink clouds paint skies. Up and down, in and out, images sharpen then fade. Keys to the past, unlocking each door, moments in time, too strong to ignore.

I am a full time professional artist working from my home studio and gallery beside the Brook Stream, 5 minutes from Nelson city centre, New Zealand. My work is vibrant and varied ranging from painting, sculpture, and mirrors to frivolous wood and mixed media 3D pieces. Working mainly in acrylic on canvas I enjoy experimenting with colour and texture. Paintings range from expressive landscapes to allegorical figurative and abstract works. I graduated from Nelson Institute of Technology in 1993 with a Certificate in Art and Design and Diploma in Visual Arts, majoring in sculpture and jewellery. I have been finalist in the New Zealand Wearable Art Awards, multiple finalist in the Telecom Artawards, winner of the Yellow Pages Arts Scholarship in 2003, and have had work selected for exhibitions nationally. I have an outlet in Sydney and another previously in Hitchin, England. I exhibit frequently and have work in collections world- wide. Travel to Greece, Spain, England, Hong Kong, Thailand, Australia and around New Zealand influences my landscape painting. Loving life influences the rest. |

L'ANDRUSCAPES is the culmination of 20+ years of education, training, experience, and exhibitions in the fields of Fine Art & Illustration painting, drawing and printmaking. I have studied art formally in New York, Paris, London, Copenhagen, and Chicago; resulting in 3 Master's degrees in Fine Arts.
I have been a member of the Michigan Pastel Assoc., The Oil Pastel Assoc., The Degas Pastel Society, and the Midwest Pastel Association. I have exhibited in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Finally, after all of these experiences and achievements I've decided to expand my horizons in trying to expose my art to the world via the internet.
My work represents my response to the world around me. I consider myself to be a "Colorist". My landscapes and figure studies express a personal and emotional interpretation to life and nature through my color palette which is vibrant and alive with intense color that portrays a spiritually optimistic and joyful outlook on nature and the human spirit.

Born in Venice land Vittorio Veneto (Treviso) in the year 1950, FRANCO ANSELMI from his early years he was very involved in art . During the school time he was the particular winner of many art prizes inside the school and he was specially eccletic for drawings and sculpting.
He attended later schools not properly of art, as his father didn't want him to be an artist, so he got a degree in Foreign Languages and later in Sociology but art was always a must for him and during his diferent studies he continue painting and searching his own peculiar style through a lot of experiences, experiments and sustaining many artist groups of his land.
He used to be a teacher of English and other matters while he continue keeping art in his right hand organizing a lot of exhibition Europewide during the periods of free time from school duty.
In 1994 he decided to give up with schools and other situations which constrain his soul to be slave, and he decided to be a full time artist. |

Michael was awarded best body of work at the Lunar Con Art show 2000. Starting 1998, determined to express all my experiences into a more approachable form,
I began creating images. In the beginning I used traditional methods: oil - color combined
with egg - tempera on prepared wooden panels according to Byzantine and Renaissance
techniques. Then, after getting acquainted with the possibilities of the Computer I
discovered a - new to me - vehicle for my expression needs. Combining traditional
techniques together with various image and video processing computer programs I create
till this very moment, images and audiovisual forms: Omnimedial Images My inspiration
sources and aims remain always the same. I do see myself not so much as a traditional
painter but more as a storyteller. Although I am -continuously - improving my techniques,
I use them only as a writing medium. Same way as a music composer I try to achieve a more
universal language. With an alphabet of cultural memories, quotations of the Past, Signs
of our Everyday Reality I try to build up mirrors in which someone could face The Human
Condition. Reflections that might revive or invigorate - shared to be - knowledge and
values of our society. For the viewer who does not desire this, it must always be an
aesthetically satisfactory image.

A few years ago José Arjonilla discovered in the abstraction an unusual territory of investigation inside which they were taking shape strange and dense forms which today are turned into a personal language absolutely. A relevant role played then the thick and warm matter, the made pigment texture its own pace acquired dancer while the colour was guaranteeing its presence in spaces broken by the serpent ante to flow luminously. One produced symbiosis to itself of harmonies unsuspected between the watery funds and the tubular waves floating on them, being born like that the universe of these abstract modulations, loaded with organic resonance.
José Arjonilla's current artworks are a continuation matured of that complex scheme and at the same time essentially, enriched with new material nuances, forming a suggest plastic studding as ductile as the same creatures crept and invertebrate that often evokes us. Fascinating submarine depths inhabited by cavernous, folded viscosities, twisted in a tangle of constant outlines in whose confusion is neither beginning nor possible end, José Arjonilla seems to want to recover the origins of the life appealing to the enigmatic appearance still as larva in the dark interior of these trodden nodules, persistently caught in the dynamics peristaltic of its worrying transformed nature.
The tactile game of the mass and the emptiness, the lights and the shades, creates volumes that advance or move back in the surface of the support, testing an endless number of visual effects of enormous plastic force. Across this effective pictorial analysis, Arjonilla manages to enter with the look a labyrinthine territory transforming illusorily the plane of the picture into three-dimensional area that us it looks like to want to devour.

He began to paint of self-taught form when child, showing soon excellent endowments for the drawing. After dealing studies of painting in Barcelona, he celebrates his first individual one at the end of the eighties, being at present one of the important artists of the plastic Andalusian world. |

Glass is the current medium that fuels my creative passion. My interest in glass began when I spent several years working at The Peltier Glass Company in Ottawa, Illinois, U.S.A. There I learned about the versatility and creative potential that glass has to offer. The possibilities are practically limitless. My abstract work in glass is an improvisation in which I seek form and emotion. I want the work to appear to "come alive." I think of it as the transfer of my life energy into the glass. That is what I want others to see and feel. The shapes I create transport my consciousness from the immediate, external world to an inner realm of symbols and emotions. It is there, in my subconscious, where my work derives its meaning. |

1963, on the 4th of June, I was born as an only child in the former DDR in Strausberg, a small village outside Berlin. The first years we lived in Herzfelde, close to the home of my grandparents, to whom I was close, also in later years. Already in a very early stage, my grandfather encouraged me to pursue art. Before my first day of school, we moved to the center of Berlin Mitte. Close to the Wall in Zionskirchstrasse, a working-class quarter with the smell of the baker’s fresh-baked cakes in our stairway.

I love color, and that is my primary tool of expression. Intense color is the one
characteristic that all my artworks in numerous styles and media have in common. I use
color in abstract pieces to show balance, transformation, and interaction of energies.
These pieces are created in many layers. Something of each layer is allowed to show
through to increase the sense of multiple dimensions.

I am interested in the human psyche; therefore I mostly paint people. I like working with color, texture, and light.

My work is drawn from dreams and experience. The colors are hot & poisonous; the
lines raw, atonal; the figures baring teeth and skin. They're a strange brew of sexual
tension, deformity, vulnerability, humor, anxiety and anger. You could say it's my own
brand of feral whimsy - a little dark fun. Continually, I'm digging deeper - where the
core idea or emotion gets to be rough going. An alchemical process: I'm opening veins,
exposing scars - transforming the blackness. From a distance, the colors and surface are
seductive, decorative even. I compulsively add little patterns, flowers - contributing to
the sweet weirdness. On closer inspection, the darker elements come into play. Perhaps an
unwitting strategy: bring 'em in close - then go for the throat...

My work ranges from representational to more abstract. My subjects are urban landscape and floral works. In all my work I use thick layers of paint and an active black line that leads the viewer around the composition. |

... and my art is that which leads me through life... I remain open to it all... allowing myself to be the vessel through which this creative flow needs to pass... this is the only activity that makes sense to me... Through my art, I wish to sensitize the masses... to the quintessence of form found in Nature, and to awaken the inherent sensitivity in all.
To actually be with a flower, to go inside of her... to be with a bone and experience it's perfection in design as well as it's perfect structural strength... on the lava... and in the waves... to truly see, hear, and feel... to experience their individual teachings, and in turn, to pay tribute to them all... by being open to that which is being given to me, and, in turn, manifest sculpture...
My dreams encompass my prayers... May my work bless many with an increased awareness.
